The construction of new stores and conversions of existing buildings to satisfy the specifications of various national builder’s merchants and retailers.

Portland have undertaken several projects for retailers including new build stores and conversions of existing buildings to provide retail sales space, warehousing and customer parking areas

Our Approach

Working in accordance with the specifications of various merchants and retailers, Portland have provided full design services for developers and contractors as part of individual projects or as part of larger mixed-use schemes

A selection of projects completed:

  • South Shields Trade Park – conversion and subdivision of an existing manufacturing building into a Travis Perkins and its associated brands
  • Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate – conversion of a vacant industrial unit into a Howdens
  • Teesside Industrial Estate – conversion and subdivision of an existing manufacturing building into a Howdens and a Screwfix
  • Teesside Industrial Estate – Conversion of an industrial building into a Toolstation
  • Benton Road, Gosforth – Conversion of a former Wickes into a Toolstation
  • Broadway, Sunderland – New Build retail parade including Co-op
  • Hexham – Conversion of the former Broadway Garage into a Co-op
  • Ryhope – New build retail unit for Sainsbury’s Local
  • Ashington – Conversion of a car dealership into a Co-op
  • Murton – New build Co-op on the site of the former Working Men’s Club
  • Seaham, East Shore – New Build retail parade including Sainsbury’s Local
