Prospect Place made use of a challenging disused site in Pelaw. The northern area of the site comprised a steep, densely vegetated slope with the southern area mainly occupied by unmaintained hardstanding. To ensure this slope remained stable, we utilised geogrid reinforcement to maintain the existing profile of the site. Additional drainage and attenuation tank storage was provided at the base of the slope to replace the natural drainage that was lost with the removal of the dense vegetation.
One other significant issue with the site was its previous use as a quarry. As a result the site was backfilled with up to 8m of made ground. To ensure that the housing remained secure, a piled foundation was used, with piles extending through the made ground to the bedrock below. A new gabion retaining wall was constructed prior to the piling works to provide additional support.
