We were delighted to see our Marketing Assistant, Anthony Goodfellow, bring home the Gold at the recent AWPC World Championships in Manchester, where he was crowned AWPC Men’s Under 90kg Open World Champion.

This latest achievement adds to an incredible year for Anth, following the ABPU British Championship Gold he secured back in July.

Portland was proud to sponsor Anth as he took to the platform, helping cover the competitions entry fee, travel and accommodation, which allowed him to focus on representing himself and Great Britain at this prestigious international event.

We were pleased to play a small part in helping Anth focus on what he does best — stepping onto the platform and representing himself and Great Britain at the highest level of competition.

And he certainly delivered!

Across the three lifts, Anth achieved a world-record total of 395.5kg, surpassing his previous total of 388kg set just a couple of months earlier.

His record-breaking performance consisted of:

  • 142.5kg squat – a new world record
  • 92.5kg bench press
  • 160.5kg deadlift – a new world record
  • 395.5kg total – a new personal best and world record

That means Anth returned from the World Championships as a World Champion and double world-record holder — an incredible achievement.

Reflecting on his success, Anth said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be sitting here as a world champion and double world record holder. It’s been an incredible, and honestly quite surreal year, from signing up with a new federation back in May, to becoming British champion and setting world records, before going once again at the Worlds to become world champion and break my own personal bests.

“I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received, particularly from Portland. Powerlifting is not a cheap endeavour!”

Lee Barr, Managing Director at Portland, said;

“Everyone at Portland is incredibly proud of Anth and what he has achieved. His dedication, hard work and determination are a real credit to him, and it’s fantastic to see that commitment rewarded with a World Championship title and two new world records. We were very happy to support him and play a small part in his journey.”

For now, the record books can breathe a sigh of relief — but Anth is already looking ahead.

His World Championship success has secured his qualification for next year’s British Championships in Manchester, while he also has the option of competing at the European Championships in Sicily or next year’s World Championships in Louisiana.

Whatever comes next, we’ll be cheering him on.

Congratulations once again to our record-breaker Anth — everyone at Portland is extremely proud of you!
