One of the more exciting projects Portland have been working on recently is the £10million redevelopment of the former Hexham nuclear bunker site recently named Hexham Gate Retail Park. Part of a team lead by Union Property Services, we have been regenerating the neglected 5.5 acre site to create an exciting new retail development, one of several projects taking place in Hexham designed to reinvigorate the town.
We were pleased to announce a significant milestone at the end of March 2022, with the opening of the Lidl supermarket unit.
Scheduled for completion at the end of May 2022, the remaining elements include a new 250-space town car park, a 69-bedroom Travelodge and a McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru unit.
We have also been working on the existing highway structure at the junction of Alemouth Road and Station Road, including widening the road and adding an extra arm to the Alemouth Road roundabout, enabling pedestrians and vehicles to access the site.
This development is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the town through the creation of 60 new jobs and an estimated £2.16million of visitor spending.
Work on the scheme began in February 2021 and the development is on track to be completed by early Summer 2022.
Portland Consulting Engineers are working alongside Esh Construction, Faulkner Browns Architects and Kyoob Ltd to bring this exciting development to life.
