Design engineers Portland Consulting Engineers (Portland) has boosted its workforce with the appointment of three new staff, following across-the-board growth in 2016.

The increase in workforce will see the Gateshead-based design civil and structural engineers staff levels at an all-time high totalling 17, as Portland continues an expansion that will see it potentially double the turnover by the end of the financial year.

Amongst the new recruits are a chartered structural engineer, civil engineering technician and apprentice civil engineering technician.

The appointment of senior structural engineer, Jonathan Eeles strengthens the structural division. With over 16 years of experience producing large scale structural projects within the region Jonathan’s arrival enhances the capabilities of the business in various sectors.

Jonathan will also manage a mentoring program to the younger employees supporting their training with professional advice.

Joe Ryans joins the firm, as a civil engineering technician with more than ten years’ experience working in the North East.  The 28-year-old will be sharing his extensive residential knowledge gained from working on key projects such as The Rise in Scotswood and Tunstall Grange in Ryhope.

Joe will work alongside the firm’s engineers to help deliver new housing schemes, as well as varied commercial, retail and industrial projects.

Completing the new appointment line-up Kieran Costello joins the firm as an apprentice civil engineering technician and is working towards his National Certificate in ‘Construction and the Built Environment’ at Newcastle College.

With a steady influx of new enquiries Portland’s managing director, Lee Barr, said: “We are continuing to pick up many new and varied projects, so our new appointments will help us bring these schemes to life and continue to deliver an exceptional service to clients.

“As a business we’re committed to recruiting, developing and retaining the very best people. These latest appointments complement our strategic growth and ongoing expansion as a renowned consultancy with a great presence in the North-east”.
